Tournament Format

The R.G.M 3-on-3 Summer Hoops Classic follows FIBA-style 3x3 rules with some modifications for youth divisions. All games are half-court with pool play leading to playoff rounds.

All games are played on half-court with one basket.

Teams compete in round-robin pools with top teams advancing to playoffs.

Playoff rounds are single elimination leading to championship games.

Game Rules

Scoring

  • 1 point - Free throws and shots inside the arc
  • 2 points - Shots from behind the 3-point line (2-point arc)

Game Duration

  • Youth Divisions: First to 15 points (win by 1)
  • Men's Divisions: First to 21 points OR 15-minute time cap

Shot Clock

  • 12 seconds to attempt a shot after gaining possession
  • Shot clock enforced by referee count or visible shot clock

Possession

  • Ball must be cleared (passed/dribbled behind the arc) after defensive rebounds or steals
  • No make-it-take-it: Possession changes after made baskets

🏀 Court & Equipment

  • Games played on standard half-court with one basket
  • Standard 3x3 court dimensions (approximately 15m x 11m)
  • 2-point arc at 6.75m (approximately 22 feet)
  • Free throw line at 5.8m from basket
  • Size 7 ball for Men's divisions, Size 6 for Youth divisions

👥 Team Composition

  • 3 players on court per team at all times
  • 1 substitute allowed (maximum 4 players per team)
  • Substitutions can be made during dead ball situations
  • Teams must have minimum 2 players to start a game
  • Players must be within the age range of their registered division

⏱️ Starting the Game

  • Game begins with a coin flip or rock-paper-scissors
  • Winner chooses possession or defers to opponent
  • Ball starts at the top of the arc (check-ball)
  • Ball must be passed to a teammate to begin play

🔄 Change of Possession

  • After a made basket: Ball goes to defensive team (no make-it-take-it)
  • After defensive rebound or steal: Ball must be cleared behind the arc before attacking
  • Dead ball situations: Ball starts at top of arc with check-ball
  • Free throws: Ball is live after attempt

🚫 Fouls & Violations

  • Personal fouls: Counted per team per game
  • Team fouls: After 6 team fouls, opponents receive 2 free throws
  • Technical fouls: 1 free throw plus possession
  • Flagrant fouls: Ejection from game (discretion of referee)
  • Unsportsmanlike behavior: May result in technical foul or ejection

⏰ Time Rules

  • Shot clock: 12 seconds per possession
  • No timeouts in pool play games
  • 1 timeout per team in playoff games (30 seconds)
  • Clock does not stop except for timeouts or injuries

Respect

Show respect to all players, referees, and spectators at all times.

Fair Play

Play hard but fair. Intentional fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

Communication

Disputes should be handled calmly and respectfully through team captains.

⚠️ Note: Players ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct may be disqualified from the remainder of the tournament.

Referee Authority

  • All referee decisions are final
  • Referees have authority to eject players for unsportsmanlike conduct
  • Referees may call technical fouls for excessive arguing or disrespectful behavior
  • Tournament directors have final authority on any disputes or protests
  • Protests must be filed in writing within 30 minutes of game completion
